“I often think the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.”

-Vincent Van Gogh

Inspired by the otherworldly colors and shapes that come alive once night falls…

On January 1st, 2021, I moved back to San Antonio, Texas, the city I had been born and raised, a place I came back to visit every year for the last twenty I had been away. Like so many cities, San Antonio is one of the fastest growing in the country; full of a rich cultural history and a vibrant community where, for me, every corner has the feeling of being both familiar and foreign. Through the vail of night these familiarities fade back and all is foreign, foliage and branches become beasts and blobs of shadow depending on the streetlight’s filament. These paintings reflect both those moments of uncertainty and imagined possibilities in the unfamiliar, both exciting and frightening depending on your perspective when surrendering to the unknown.
